Even big games from five players cannot get the Langston University Lions back to their winning ways. The Lions fell to the Red River Athletic Conference leaders Texas Wesleyan University 95-89 on Monday night in C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse. 

 

Langston missed one free throw the entire game (36 of 37), both of TWU’s big men fouled out, and the Lions still could not overcome the five point deficit from halftime to knock off the tenth-ranked team in the NAIA.   

 

Five Lions had huge games against the Rams. Catrell Currie, Isaiah Johnson, Eric Harris, Chris Tyler, and Chris Higgins all scored in double digits for the LU. Currie led Langston with 25 points. Johnson came off the bench to hit 12 big free throws and finish with 18 points. Harris finished with 15 points and seven rebounds while playing almost the entire second half with four fouls. Both Tyler and Higgins finished with 11. Higgins added five assists for the Lions while Tyler’s defensive efforts included four rebounds, two steals, and one block.

 

The Rams have improved to 15-4 on the season and remain in first place in the RRAC. Four Rams finished in double figures. Jamel White came off of the bench to lead all scorers in the game with 32 points. White also had seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals in the game. Hector Mukweyi scored 19 points before fouling out. Terrell Henry also came off of the bench to add 18 for the Rams while, Brian Wanamaker finished with 10 points and nine assists. 

 

The Lions are about to go on a three game road trip before returning home to the Lions Den on February 8^th. Langston will travel to Hobbs, NM to face the University of the Southwest on January 28^th, followed by a trip to Austin, Tex. to play Huston-Tillotson University on February 4^th and to San Antonio, Tex. to play Our Lady of the Lake University.
