Conference Postseason Play Looking Bleak for Lions

Box Score

Revenge must have been sweet for Southwestern Assemblies of God University who lost by one point to Langston on a buzzer beater when LU traveled to Waxahachie, Tex. earlier in the season. SAGU returned the favor by knocking off the Lions 89-90 on Monday night.

With the loss, Langston is now 5-14 on the season and their chances of making it to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament are slim. LU had a great night from the floor, shooting 53% from the floor and a smoking 50% from long range. A costly team turnover with just over :11 seconds on the clock gave SAGU just enough time to create a play that would win them the game.

Junior Alvin Lewis led all scorers in the game with 36 points. Lewis was 7-12 from the floor, 4-7 from three-point range, and 7-8 from the free throw line. Catrell Currie added 20 points for Langston, while Isaiah Johnson and Eric Harris, Jr. both finished with 14.
Five players for SAGU finished in double figures. Both Alaric Thompson and Jon Black finished with double-doubles in the game. Thompson scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, while Black finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Black’s biggest rebound came on the offensive end of the floor with one second left in the game. Jared Gibson and Ronald Horne both finished with 15, while James Ford came off of the bench to score 11.

The Lions will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Muskogee, Okla. to face Bacone College. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
