Lady Lions Fight Fire in First Round

After winning the Red River Athletic Conference regular season title and the RRAC Tournament, the Langston University Lady Lions are geared up and ready to face their next opponent. The Lady Lions will play the Lee University (Tenn.) Flames in the first round of the 2010 NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament in Jackson, Tenn. on March 18, 2010 at 10:45 CST.  
 
Sixth-seeded Langston ended the regular season with a 26-7 record and were ranked 22nd in the nation, while third-seeded Lee finished with a 28-5 record and were ranked 10th in the NAIA. 
 
Lee will be led by 6-2 senior Katie Nelson. Nelson is eighth in the country in total scoring averaging 17.6 ppg and is eighth in the NAIA in blocks with 73 on the season. This is the seventh national tournament appearance for the Flames, where they have gone 3-6 overall. 
This is the eighth national tournament appearance for Langston and their fourth consecutive. With several weapons, the Lady Lions will be tough to beat. Senior guard Sanetra Jackson, the Red River Conference Player of the Year, is averaging 19.4 ppg. Junior forward Stephanie Madden, the RRAC Newcomer of the Year and the RRAC Tournament MVP, is averaging a double-double on the season (17.6 ppg and 10.3 rpg) and has pulled down 17 double-doubles on the season, including . Senior forward Latesha Calton-Woods is the ultimate threat. Calton-Woods is averaging 13.3 ppg and 6.2 rpg. She also has 109 assists, 33 blocks, and 68 steals on the season.
