Men Successful in Johnson City

The Langston University Indoor Track & Field traveled 14 hours to compete in the 2010 National Indoor Track & Field Championships and left with some success.

The men’s team followed up last year’s fourth place finish with an eighth place overall finish. This is the fourth consecutive year that the men’s team has finished in the top 15 and the second straight season in the top 10.

Mario McCottrell, a sophomore from East St. Louis, Ill., ran his way to another national title. With a time of 1:18.15, McCottrell won the 600 meter run for the second consecutive year. He is only the third person to win the 600 back-to-back. McCottrell was ranked first during the entire indoor season.

Austin, Tex. native, Julius Koger, jumped 24’ 5” on his way to becoming the national champion runner-up in the long jump. Koger won the event last year, but received yet another All-American honor for his impressive finish.

Both men's and women's track & field teams will begin competing in the outdoor season beginning March 19th.  They will travel to either Ft. Worth, Tex. to compete in the Horned Frog Invitational (Texas Christian University) or the Tulsa Duals (University of Tulsa).
